NZ Rhapzody is a New Zealand hop variety developed by Clayton Hops, known during its experimental phase as CIP 014. Its organoleptic profile is built around ripe tropical fruit: passion fruit, sweet mango and pineapple, accompanied by peach, stone fruit, juicy citrus and pink grapefruit. It is not simply a fruity hop; it combines an intense, sweet tropical base with a fresher citrus side that brings contrast and definition. Brewing trials have also identified hints of orange, grapefruit and pine resin, adding complexity to the whole.
It also stands out for its high concentration of thiol precursors, especially 3S4MPol. When the recipe and yeast favour biotransformation, it can develop the character associated with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc alongside its tropical notes. Because of its aromatic intensity it can act as the main hop, although it is also recommended with Citra, Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, Cascade or Eclipse. This collection brings together beers brewed with NZ Rhapzody and lets you explore different interpretations of one of the most recent additions to New Zealand's hop catalogue.
