NZ04 is an experimental New Zealand hop developed within the Hāpi Research breeding programme, a joint initiative by Freestyle Hops and Garage Project. It comes from a single trial plant selected for standing out among other candidates and, as of 2026, remains under evaluation, so it still keeps its NZ04 code rather than a final varietal name. Early brewing trials describe it with a marked profile of rich, sweet tropical fruit.
NZ04 is part of the selections that Hāpi Research is expanding for larger-scale trials before deciding on its possible commercial release.
