Strata is a type of hop that stands out for its aromatic qualities; it is celebrated for its vibrant notes of grapefruit and strawberry, complemented by flashes of passion fruit and a distinctive touch of cannabis and herbs. This profile is the result of its diverse aromatic compound content, especially terpenes such as myrcene, humulene and caryophyllene, which contribute to its unique olfactory characteristics.
Initially developed at Oregon State University as part of the hop research program, Strata was released commercially in 2018. It is a hybrid of Perle and other experimental varieties, and has an alpha acid content ranging between 11% and 12.5%, with total oil content of approximately 2.3 to 2.9 ml/100g.
