Sabro hop is famous for its intense aromatic profile of tropical fruits, citrus and distinctive nuances such as coconut and mint. These characteristics give it an exotic and refreshing character, ideal for beers seeking to stand out for their aromatic complexity. Its richness in terpenes such as myrcene, which provides fruity qualities, and humulene, which adds herbal notes, forms the basis of this highly particular profile.
Named for its delicious flavour, Sabro was developed from the native Neomexicanus hop in New Mexico by the USDA hop breeding programme, and was released in 2018. With alpha acid content ranging between 12% and 16%, and a high essential oil content of 2.5 to 3.5 ml/100g, Sabro is excellent both for providing pronounced bitterness and for enriching the aromatic profile of beer. It is particularly valued in IPA brewing, including NEIPAs, where its tropical and exotic notes can be fully expressed.
