German Magnum hop is distinguished by its high efficiency in providing clean and strong bitterness, while being essentially neutral in its aromatic profile. Due to this almost nonexistent aromatic profile, Magnum allows the flavours of other more aromatic hops or specialty malts to predominate without competition.
Originating in Germany and developed from American Galena hop in the 1980s, Magnum is valued for its high alpha acid content, ranging between 12% and 14%. This characteristic makes it an ideal additive at the beginning of the beer boiling process, where its bitterness can integrate efficiently without altering other sensory aspects of the beer.
